Manchester United’s squad is reportedly still behind Ruben Amorim, yet there’s a growing sense that his tactics are being overlooked during games. The Reds face Sunderland this weekend amidst increasing scrutiny on Amorim following a string of defeats, including last weekend’s 3-1 loss at Brentford.
In the build-up to the match, Amorim faced the media and firmly stated he wouldn’t step down from his role at United, despite rumours suggesting he might leave before potentially facing dismissal. The upcoming game against Sunderland is undeniably critical for his tenure.
Journalist David Ornstein provided insights into the mood within the United camp regarding Amorim and his team. Speaking to NBC Sports, Ornstein revealed that while players generally support their manager, there’s an acknowledgment that they’ve not been adhering to his instructions when conceding goals recently, hinting at psychological or mental issues in the squad.
Amorim addressed the recent poor performances with the press, accepting the need to confront the team’s form head-on. “It’s normal,” he said, acknowledging the weight of expectation and pressure that comes with the job.
“You cannot run away from the results and then you have the baggage from last season. It’s going to be a really tough match (vs Sunderland).
“They are doing really well and when you see the games, they draw with one less player and then they win in the final play against Brentford. The details are changing a lot, so we need to pay attention to that.
“It’s a team that plays really well, a clear system, 4-3-3, with a lot of rotations on the side of the pitch. They are confident.
“So it is clear we will be under pressure. We have had some moments.”
Reflecting on the season’s inconsistencies, Amorim noted: “During these six games during this season, we are not always the same team in small things, more in the way we play. All the effort that we put in, we put in the maximum in every single thing.
