Manchester United could let Rasmus Hojlund leave this month but only under certain circumstances. AC Milan are reportedly interested in the Dane after dropping their pursuit of fellow Red Devils forward Marcus Rashford.
Milan held talks with Rashford’s camp but the 27-year-old is now closing in on a loan move to Borussia Dortmund. Barcelona are also in the picture but the Catalan giants would need to free up space on their wage bill to accommodate Rashford’s lucrative pay packet.
With the Rossoneri still in the market for a centre-forward, ESPN claim that they have earmarked Hojlund as a January target. His United team-mate, Joshua Zirkzee, is also believed to be on their list, along with Chelsea star Joao Felix and Mexican goal machine Santiago Gimenez.
The report states that United are open to letting one of Zirkzee or Hojlund leave before the winter deadline. But Red Devils chiefs have decided they will only do so if a replacement striker is brought in beforehand.
Milan pressing on with their pursuit of the United pair opens up the possibility of Ruben Amorim losing Rashford and one of Zirkzee or Hojlund in the same window. Antony, meanwhile, is on the verge of joining Real Betis on loan for the rest of the season.
Felix is believed to be Milan’s top choice up front, but Hojlund and Zirkzee both have proven track records in Serie A, having been amongst the goals with Atalanta and Bologna respectively.
The wheels are finally beginning to turn at Old Trafford after a quiet first three weeks of the January window. Sunday’s defeat at home to Brighton could prove to be the turning point, with Amorim openly admitting he may be in charge of the worst United team of all time.
PSR limitations have prevented United from spending until they raise cash of their own through player sales or getting big earners off the wage bill. Rashford and Antony heading out on loan would help, but a permanent exit could force the floodgates wide open.
Napoli hold a serious interest in Alejandro Garnacho and the Italian giants have money to spend after selling Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain. It remains to be seen whether they can come close to United’s valuation for a fan favourite who has impressed since breaking into the first team.
A new addition at left wing-back is believed to be Amorim’s top priority if United scrape together the necessary cash. Talks have reportedly been held with Lecce over a deal for Patrick Dorgu, while Nuno Mendes and Rayan Ait-Nouri also have admirers at Old Trafford.
