Manchester United are reportedly preparing a fresh offer for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo. The winger has emerged as one of the most sought-after stars in the transfer window so far, with several other Premier League clubs eyeing a move.
Despite already welcoming the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, Ruben Amorim is keen to overhaul his attacking ranks and signing another winger and striker is among his priorities for the upcoming weeks.
Mbeumo has been shortlisted as a top target at Old Trafford and the winger is said to have already made it clear that he would be happy to join the club. However, other top sides are on his tail too and hijack attempts are certainly in the pipeline.
After already seeing a handful of offers rejected already this summer, Duncan Castles reports that United are preparing a new offer of at least £60million for Mbeumo, though it remains to be seen whether the bid meets the Bees’ internal valuation – which is said to be in excess of £70m.
The Red Devils may be forced to accelerate their pursuit sooner rather than later, as a new side have now joined the race to secure Mbeumo’s signature – Aston Villa. Unai Emery’s side are cited as being among United’s competition for the versatile forward, with Tottenham and Newcastle also keen.
Spurs are firmly in the race to sign Mbeumo since they appointed Thomas Frank as their new manager, and reuniting with his former manager could prove a very attractive proposition for the 25-year-old as he looks to assess his options.
Mbeumo scored 20 goals and registered eight assists in all competitions last season, and his ability to play on either flank as well as through the middle is likely to prove very attractive to Amorim. With a top-quality striker eyed, the ex-Sporting boss will hope he can head into the upcoming campaign with a completely rejuvenated front three.
Viktor Gyokeres remains a target at the Theatre of Dreams, though other options are also being explored. United have made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt to discuss the possibility of signing Hugo Ekitike, though Chelsea and Liverpool also have the Frenchman and – like Mbeumo – they will need to move quickly to steal a march on their rivals.
