Manchester United are reportedly on the brink of securing one of Europe’s most promising talents. United had a notably active conclusion to the summer transfer window, with five new additions to Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens and Diego Leon all joined the Reds, with the possibility of more arrivals later in the season. The January transfer window offers another chance for United to bolster their ranks, reports The Manchester Evening News.
A recent report suggests that the Reds are already planning to invest in one of Europe’s top young stars in the New Year. Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has reported that United have initiated talks to sign AIK prodigy Kevin Filling.
The report indicates that United will face competition from Bundesliga clubs for the 16-year-old’s signature when the January transfer window commences. Filling is believed to be valued at approximately £2.6million (€3m) and could depart AIK in the New Year if an agreement is reached with United.
Despite being only 16 years old, Filling has already made 10 appearances for the AIK first team this season, scoring three goals as a centre forward, including two in the Allsvenskan in Sweden.
It remains uncertain whether United will succeed in signing Filling when the January transfer window opens, and which Bundesliga clubs are also reportedly interested.
Filling’s next chance to shine for AIK will be this Sunday against Elfsborg in the Allsvenskan. That match will be a day after United face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
It remains to be seen what budget United will have at their disposal in the January transfer window, and if it will give them room to sign Filling.
In terms of exits, Ruben Amorim is said to be set on rejecting any transfer requests to leave in January from Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo due to his squad losing a number of players to the African Cup of Nations.
