Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has been dealt a fresh blow, suffering a new hamstring injury. Shaw was absent from United’s travelling squad for last night’s Premier League clash at Arsenal.

The left-back later took to his Instagram to confirm a “small setback” on his mission to starting his first match since a 2-1 win at Luton Town in February.

He admitted he was “hurting” and going through his “toughest period” but vowed to come back stronger.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, there are concerns within the club that Shaw will be out for several weeks rather than a few.

Due to the delicate nature of the England international’s latest issue, United are intent on managing his rehabilitation carefully.

Shaw first encountered a hamstring strain soon after joining United in August 2014.

Although there is reportedly a hope that his absence won’t extend to the three months he missed last season post-February 18, cautious handling is mandatory for his recovery.

The report adds that Shaw’s latest injury isn’t linked to the one he suffered ten months ago.

After representing England at Euro 2024 in the summer, Shaw returned to club duty and quickly suffered a calf injury during pre-season in early August.

The 29-year-old had just returned from a nine-month absence in the 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town just under two weeks ago.

He accumulated 94 minutes off the bench across the outing at Portman Road and subsequent victories over Bodo/Glimt and Everton.

Shaw was set to start the game against Arsenal but suffered this most recent injury during training.

He is reportedly devastated by the setback, especially as it happened through an unfortunate training incident.

Since his £31million move from Southampton to United in June 2014, Shaw has featured in 275 out of a possible 576 United games.

Ahead of kick-off at the Emirates Stadium last night, Ruben Amorim sent support to Shaw and stressed that he is in his future plans.

“What I said to him, as a coach is, that since I am here, I saw him in the medical department,” Amorim told Amazon Prime.

“I saw him in the gym. I saw him losing weight. I saw him training. So he did everything right. Sometimes, when you have one or two injuries, it’s really hard to recover.

“If he continues with this behaviour, doing everything he can, I will be here. All the staff will be here, as long as it takes.

“We believe a lot in him, he’s so important for our team. For the future, I see in this team, Luke is a very important player for us.”
