A man is insisting anyone looking for a new holiday destination to visit should consider one European spot that serves a dessert that is “the best in the world”.
One of the best parts about travelling is being able to try new things that you might never normally do at home. Many of us love trying the local hotspots for the best food and drink.
Italy never fails when it comes to food. People travel from all over the world just to get their hands around authentic Italian pizza and pasta, perhaps accompanied with a negroni and a tiramisu to finish.
One man, who travels the world to try the best food, insists that Florence is a must-visit for trying the best affogato dessert – an Italian dessert with a scoop of gelato or ice cream, topped with an espresso. It is served at Vivoli Artisan Ice Cream Shop, which is a stone’s throw from Santa Croce, has been open since 1932 and remains highly popular today.
The family founded dessert shop sees huge queues of people lining down the street to get a taste of their famous dessert. Thanks to its success it now has ice cream parlours in New York and Orlando too. But American man Jack, better known as Jack’s Dining, wanted to try the affogato at its original location and has shared his verdict.
He shared: “They filled it to the brim with their world famous homemade gelato and then freshly brewed Italian espresso.” He shared that they made 17,000 a day, and charge £4.46 per dessert. “It’s like an Italian bank in there,” Jack joked.
Sharing further insight, Jack added: “The fourth generation owner was literally born in the shop.” He asked how to eat the dessert and the owner insisted that you should never mix in. Instead you take a small amount of gelato and dunk it into the espresso for the full taste effect.
Jack shared his reaction after tucking into the treat, and said: “Holy s***. I thought it was going to be good, but that is actually unbelievable.” “I think this is on the official white girls Michelin guide,” he joked.
“The homemade custard cream gelato is so good,” he added. “You get the warmth of the espresso…the combo is insane.”
A number of people said that once you have the affogato in Florence, you will never be able to stop thinking about it. One individual who has tried the spot said: “Don’t go here. You’ll spend the rest of your life CRAVING it.”
One other joked: “Had this eight years ago I have been chasing this perfection and disappointed every time. Don’t do it you will never know peace.” “Affogato from Vivoli is that good, he is not exaggerating at all,” agreed another.
“I think about this affogato almost every day,” said another fan of the dessert.
One other noted: “It came out of a stone window. It has to be legit.” “Affogato is SO damn good,” insisted one other. “I want to go to Italy just for this,” said another.
