A man living in a migrant hotel in Manchester has been accused of sexual assault on a woman. Tadi Alemeyeha appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he pleaded not guilty to the offence committed earlier this month. Alemeyeha lives in the Britannia Country House Hotel in south Manchester.
It is understood that the accused is seeking asylum in the UK. The 22-year-old followed court proceedings with the aid of an interpreter of Amharic – a language spoken in Ethiopia. Alemeyeha had his bail application refused by magistrates and was remanded into custody. The asylum seeker is set to appear at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester on September 11.
Earlier this week, a Pakistani asylum seeker appeared at Inner London Crown Court for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl multiple times. Kamran Khan, 43, has been accused of raping the girl twice between September 2024 and July 2025, as well as forcing her to watch another person engage in sexual activity.
This comes after a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an Afghan asylum seeker in Nuneaton. Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, was charged last week with the rape of the girl, and Mohammad Kabir, 23, was charged with kidnap and strangulation.
Mulakhil, who reportedly crossed the Channel on a small boat, is said to have raped the victim in the Cheverel Street area of Nuneaton, between 8.30pm and 9.45pm on July 22.
The pair appeared at Coventry magistrates’ court and were remanded in custody until their appearance at Warwick Crown Court on August 26.
Also in July, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by an Ethiopian asylum seeker. Hadush Gerberslasie Kebatu, 38, was charged with the assault just days after arriving in Britain in a small boat. He denied the charge when he appeared at Chelmsford magistrates’ court on July 17.
