A man has been found dead in Bournemouth just days after he was assaulted outside a hotel, with police launching a probe into his “unexplained” death.

The body of a man in his 60s was discovered in the South-east beach resort on Friday evening.

Police say the man had previously been attacked outside the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel in East Overcliff at around 1pm last Tuesday (February 25).

Investigators are still trying to establish whether there was any link between the previous assault and the man’s death.

Currently, his death is being treated as “unexplained”.

It comes after an initial post-mortem examination on Sunday, with further tests having been ordered.

Meanwhile, Dorset police have arrested a 46-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

The suspect was released on conditional police bail as the probe continues.

Detective Inspector Shaun Inkpen, of MCIT, said: “Our thoughts continue to remain with the loved ones of the man who sadly died and we are keeping them updated with the latest developments.

“The investigation is still in the early stages and we are going to be continuing our work to establish the cause of the man’s death and whether there is any link to the reported assault.

“I am still urging anyone who was near to the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel at around 1pm on Tuesday 25 February 2025 and saw anything that may assist my enquiries to please come forward.

“The cordon in East Overcliff has now been removed and we would like to thank the public for their understanding while this was in place. We would encourage anyone with information or concerns to please speak with their local neighbourhood policing team.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55250029356.
