Man cleared of unlawfully killing his neighbour following row over noise

A man has been cleared of unlawfully killing his neighbour following a ‘row over noise’.

Krystian Skowronski, 32, was charged with manslaughter after it was alleged that he and Philip Woods, 66, had been involved in an altercation in Gaunt Street, in Lincoln, last summer.

Mr Woods died at the scene a short time later on June 5, 2023.

Skowronski stood trial at Lincoln Crown Court charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Mr Woods, and with affray in relation to a separate incident which took place earlier the same day.

The BBC reports Skowronski, who was represented by Gordon Aspden KC, denied being criminally responsible for the death of Mr Woods.

But Steven Bailey, prosecuting, had alleged that Skowronski was a noisy neighbour whose actions in disturbing his neighbours, some of them elderly, led to the death of Mr Woods.

The court heard Mr Woods had a “long-standing heart condition and high blood pressure”. He made the 999 call himself from his flat in Gaunt Street and reported he had been assaulted.

Emergency services attended the scene but were unable to resuscitate Mr Woods, the court heard.

LincolnshireLive reports Skowronski was cleared of manslaughter by the jury but he was found guilty of affray on Wednesday, February 14.

The incident of affray involved Skowronski behaving in a threatening and intimidating manner towards a woman in a car by pretending to kick her car and by punching her car window, causing her to fear for her safety.

The 32-year-old will be sentenced on April 8 and will remain in police custody until the hearing. Lincolshire Police say the family of Mr Woods have asked for their privacy to be respected.
