A man has been charged with rape after a woman was allegedly attacked near a city centre hospital. The reported rape took place in the early hours of last Thursday (October 9) morning and a crime scene was put in place.
The Metropolitan Police said the woman, 19, was raped at around 3.30am near University College Hospital on Euston Road, London. Officers rushed to the scene, and an investigation was launched. Hassan Sarout, 21, was arrested on Friday (October 10) and has since been charged with rape. He will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Monday (October 13).
Police added that the victim is being supported by specially-trained officers. Meanwhile, investigating officers are continuing to appeal for information from the public on the reported rape.
They are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone with relevant footage from the area at the time of the alleged attack. Anyone with information should get in touch with police as soon as possible.
Euston Road is located in Central London and runs from Marylebone Road to King’s Cross. As well as University College Hospital, Euston Train Station, is also located on the road.
The Met Police said: “Police investigating a report of rape which occurred on Euston Road in Camden have charged a man. Hassan Sarout, 21 (23.12.2003) of no fixed address was charged with rape on Saturday, 11 October.
“A 19-year-old woman reported at 03:31hrs on Thursday, 9 October that she had been raped in the early hours of the morning. She continues to be supported by specialist officers. Officers attended the location, which was near a hospital, as part of early enquiries and a crime scene was put in place.
“Sarout was arrested in relation to the incident on Friday, 10 October. He will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 13 October. Enquiries are ongoing.
