A Southampton school was put into lockdown with children hiding under their desk following reports a man was walking nearby, armed with two knives.
Pupils at St Mark’s C of E School were told to make the move following a message over the tannoy.
Parents were also reported to have been locked inside the building as the situation unfolded.
The lockdown order began at around 3.20pm when a man, 44, was reportedly seen holding the two knives in a nearby road.
Hampshire Police are believed to have arrested the man, enabling the school to cancel the lockdown.
