A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested after the death of a one-year-old girl on the Isle of Wight. The child was taken to the hospital on Friday after being found with injuries, but she died on Sunday, according to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
A force spokesman said: “Police were called at 11.34am on Friday, August 1, to a report of a child being taken to hospital with serious injuries. Sadly, the child, a one-year-old girl, died in the hospital on Sunday, August 3. A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Newport, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
“They have been released on conditional police bail pending further inquiries until November 1.”
Inspector Oly Greenhowe said: “This is an incredibly sad situation and will undoubtedly be felt throughout the community.
“We are continuing to conduct thorough inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident and how the child became injured, and we respectfully urge members of the public to refrain from engaging in speculation online.
