Freshly baked bread is one of life’s simplest yet greatest pleasures. The gorgeous aroma is enough to get anybody’s mouth watering, and it’s always best served slightly warm with lashings of butter.

Making your own loaf at home is really simple, as it doesn’t require many ingredients at all. If a farmhouse-style bread is your go-to at home, then there’s one viral recipe on TikTok that you need to try, as fans say it’s ‘amazing’ with just five ingredients. It was shared by TikToker @mumsfoodies, as part of her ‘Basic Breads’ series on the video app.

Her simple yet delicious farmhouse loaf recipe has racked up more than 662k views on TikTok, and you might be surprised at how easy it is to make.

She took her followers through a quick tutorial on how to make it, with the comments full of people keen to try it out for themselves at home – and people who already have.

One person raved: ” Just made this today … it’s amazing!! And so easy to remember to make again.”

Another said: “Made this morning turned out great , thank you for sharing.”

And a third commented: “Just made this and my kids have devoured the entire loaf, didn’t even wait for it to cool down.”

She says there’s about 20 minutes of hands-on activity in between the proving sessions, but it’s ‘so worth it’ for that taste. Here’s everything you need to make it.

Farmhouse loaf

Ingredients

  • 7g instant yeast
  • 250ml lukewarm water
  • One tbsp honey
  • 350g white bread flour
  • 1/2 tbsp salt

Method

In a large bowl, mix the yeast and water together. Add honey and mix again, then add the flour and salt and mix until everything is fully combined. Cover with a tea towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Afterwards, wet your hand so that the dough doesn’t stick, and stretch and fold the mixture four times. Make sure you turn the bowl after each fold, then cover and rest again for a further 30 minutes.

Repeat the stretch and fold process, cover and rest for an hour and a half.

Once the dough is ready, sprinkle some flour on top – and on your work surface – and turn the dough out. Flour your hands and gently stretch it out from the underside, forming a flat square-ish shape.

Fold the dough across in thirds until you’ve got a rectangle and as then roll it up. Seal the seams up along the top and sides, pushing in any lumps and bumps, then flip the dough over and place in a loaf tin that has been greased with butter, seam side down. Cover and rest for 45 minutes.

After 15 minutes, preheat your oven to 210C and pop in a loaf tin filled with water to the bottom shelf, which will create some steam and make your bread lovely and fluffy.

When the bread is ready to go in, bake for 10 minutes with the steam, then turn the oven down to 190C and take out the water, baking for another 20 -23 minutes. Turn the bread out of the tin on to a wire rack when it’s finished and let it cool for at least 20 minutes before tucking in.
