Majorca’s hotspot launches new campaign as it asks British tourists to behave | World | News

Local authorities in Spain have announced a plan for tourists to stay safe while on holiday. Reports of UK holidaymakers’ behaviour abroad leading to dangerous or troubling incidents are frequent. Last year, three Brits were kicked out of their hotel and arrested, with one of them allegedly punching an officer in the chest. In May, a video of UK holidaymakers causing chaos on a flight to Ibiza was shared on TikTok, and just a few days ago, two British women were caught hitting each other to the ground during a fight in Tenerife.

Yesterday morning (June 10), the Calvia Town Hall and the British Embassy in Spain renewed their commitment to encouraging safe tourism, taking it one step further for the peak travel season.

Both institutions presented their civic and responsible tourism campaigns in a meeting held at the Calvia Town Hall. The campaigns will be showcased across social media networks in Britain and on billboards in the municipality, especially in the Magaluf area. They feature the slogan ‘Magaluf for all / Be responsible’ and are in partnership with the UK’s Stick with your Mates campaign, which provides tips on how to experience a holiday that is both safe and enjoyable.

The Mayor of Calvia, officials from the British Embassy in Madrid and the British Consulate in Palma stressed the importance of prevention and responsibility so that UK holidaymakers visiting Majorca can enjoy a summer without incidents or serious accidents, Majorca Daily Bulletin reports.

Sarah Cowley, minister counsellor at the British Embassy in Madrid, recognised that Calvia and the Balearic Islands is a popular destination for UK holidaymakers, and therefore noted that the campaign reminds people “that to have the best experience in this welcoming land it is essential that visitors stay with their companions and look after each other”.

She added: “With actions such as agreeing a meeting point before depatures or sharing a live location, the chances of something going wrong are drastically reduced.”
