A major police operation is underway after a woman was sexually assaulted in a woods. Investigators are reviewing hours of CCTV footage while forensics, search teams, police dogs and drones have also been deployed at the scene in a bid to find the attacker.
Leicestershire Police said the serious sexual assault took place in Grace Dieu Woods, also known as Thringstone Woods, near Coalville at around 11am on Thursday, October 2. However, over a week has since passed and the attacker is still on the run. The investigation is now being led by the East Midlands Special Operations Unit major investigation team. The victim, who police said went through an “extremely traumatic ordeal”, is being supported by specially-trained officers.
Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall, who is leading the investigation, said: “We remain dedicated to investigating this incident with all lines of enquiry being explored. Our focus remains on identifying and arresting the person responsible.
“The incident has understandably caused concern and distress within the local community, but I would like to reassure the public that this investigation remains a top priority for the force.
