Just weeks ago Prince Harry followed in the footsteps of his late mother, Princess Diana, by walking across a landmine field in Angola. However, while some of his actions mirror that of the “People’s Princess”, who tragically died in 1997, this is not the case for everything.
Since leaving the Royal Family in 2020, Harry – who still goes by the title of the Duke of Sussex – has been critical of the Royal Family, whether that be in interviews, the Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan in 2022, and his memoir Spare. While Spare may have sent shockwaves across the Royal Family and the world, with the book believed to have been one of the reasons Harry, 40, and his brother Prince William are not on talking terms, he is not the only royal to have taken to sharing their story on paper.
This is because Diana, Princess of Wales authorised the biography Diana: Her True Story, which was written by Andrew Morton with the princess’ input.
However, while Harry may be similar to his mother in the way in which they wanted their own version of events on paper, one royal expert has pointed out the major difference between them, especially when it comes to these books.
Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, royal expert Robert Jobson said that while Prince Harry made money from Spare and criticising his family, Diana did not.
Jobson said: “She (Diana) didn’t monetise it for herself. He made a fortune out of it.”
Although unconfirmed, it is believed the prince made around £22million ($27million) from the release of his bombshell memoir in 2023.
However, this came at a cost for the prince, as while he may have financially benefited from the book’s publication, a number of his relationships with his royal relatives fractured.
This included his already fragile relationship with his brother William, 43, and Princess Kate.
It is believed Spare may have also been the start of the rift between Harry and his father King Charles, 76.
The Royal Family have always refrained from commenting on the memoir.
