Major change to Cadbury's Animals biscuits leaves parents outraged

A pack of Cadbury’s chocolate-covered Animals biscuits used to contain seven smaller bags of the good stuff inside, weighing 139.3g.

This means there was enough Cadbury’s Animals to last one child a whole week, if eating only one pack per day, which was very convenient for parents.

Now there are only five Animals packets inside the pack, only weighing 99.5g, and most alarmingly, it still costs the same amount of money.

One big pack of Cadbury’s Animals costs £1.25, so now parents feel short-changed as they’re getting less for their money than before.

One upset dad said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Another staple off the food shop, as @cadburyUK decided not just to increase the price of their Animals biscuits by 20 percent, but also reduce the pack size from seven to five.”

Meanwhile, on the Morrisons website, a shopper said little children were being “cheated”.

The angry shopper queried: “Less Animals in the packet for the same price. Why not put the price up a little and keep the contents the same.”

Mondelez International, which owns Cadbury, released a statement to justify the major change. A spokesperson reportedly said: “We understand the economic pressures that consumers continue to face.

“However, as a food producer, we are continuing to experience significantly higher input costs across our supply chain, with ingredients such as cocoa and sugar, which are widely used in our products, costing far more than they have done previously.

“This means that our products continue to be much more expensive to make and while we have absorbed these costs where possible, we still face considerable challenges.”

The spokesperson concluded: “As a result, we’ve made the decision to decrease the amount of packs in Cadbury Animals so that we can continue to provide the great taste and quality our fans expect.”

More “positive changes” were pointed out by the spokesperson. These included a new design to minimise the amount of packaging used and improved recyclability.

There may be more groans to come, however, as it’s been revealed Freddo the frog is no longer included in the Animals biscuits.

As some stores are still selling older versions of Animals biscuits, there may be a delay before other parents notice the new changes.

Poundland confirmed it still had 500 left in stock, while Sainsbury’s still have them listed on its website.
