In a major win for summer holidays this year, popular budget airline Wizz Air has revealed three exciting new routes for holidaymakers to enjoy. As part of the expansion of its Southern European network, the Hungarian ultra-low-cost airline will launch three new routes from Spain, linking the world’s second most popular tourist destination, with Italy, as well as Bulgaria.

The first of the new routes, directly connecting the beautiful northern city of Santander, Cantabria, with the capital and largest city of Bulgaria, Sofia. Launching on March 31, the service will operate twice a week – on Tuesdays and Saturdays – with introductory fares starting at €39.99 (£34.60). However, visitors hoping to explore more of Southern Europe could be jetting off on flights for even less money, starting in May.

Wizz Air is also reinforcing its air links between Spain and Italy, and from May 11, will introduce a new route between Bilbao on Spain’s northern Basque Country coast and Milan Malpensa Airport in Lombardy – the largest airport serving northern Italy. This service will run four times a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays – with prices from €24.99 (£21.60).

A day later, a further connection will follow when Wizz Air begins flights between Palma de Mallorca in the Balearics and Naples. This route will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with fares starting at just €19.99 (£17.30).

In 2025, Wizz Air experienced significant passenger growth, reaching between 5.8 and 6.9 million passengers per month by year-end. Its network covers 179 airports in 46 countries and over 900 routes, with particularly strong growth witnessed in its Polish and Bulgarian markets, with over 11 million passengers between January and October and nearly three million over the year respectively.

Wizz Air’s news comes as multiple other popular airlines among Brits also revealed their plans for new routes this year. Indeed, Jet2’s arrival at Gatwick will significantly boost flights to Majorca and Portugal’s Faro, with both gaining an extra 10 services a week.

Meanwhile, from August 1, easyJet will launch a new direct route from Newcastle to Tenerife. Meanwhile, on May 1, Bristol Airport will be connected via easyJet to Cape Verde’s Sal Island, known for its white-sand beaches, year-round sunshine and relaxed island atmosphere.

Finally, British Airways is launching a new seasonal route from Heathrow Airport to Tivat in Montenegro. Offering access to the stunning Bay of Kotor, Tivat is a growing summer hotspot, particularly among cruisers, with luxury marinas and nearby historic coastal towns.
