A picturesque town nestled amidst mountains is the ideal spot for your next staycation. For those seeking a relaxing retreat with unparalleled views, Keswick in Cumbria is the perfect destination.

Despite its modest population of less than 5,000, the town attracts visitors from far and wide for its amenities and stunning landscapes. Situated just north of Derwentwater in the Lake District, the area boasts an array of day-trip opportunities, enough to fill a week-long itinerary. You’ll find yourself immersed in miles of beautiful scenic walks, featuring sights such as Catbells, the ‘Jaws of Borrowdale’ and Skiddaw, one of England’s loftiest peaks.

No visit to Keswick would be complete without a leisurely walk along the shores of Derwentwater, capturing the mountain’s reflection on the lake.

Another trail offering breathtaking views of the town and surrounding mountains is Latrigg, the fell closest to the town. Located three miles from the town centre, it takes approximately two to two and a half hours to reach the summit.

After soaking up the scenery, unwind in one of the town’s charming pubs and venues. Noteworthy spots include The Kings Arms Restaurant, surrounded by boutique shops, Bassenthwaite Lake Station, a café housed within a 1930s-style train, and Falls Brasserie, a hidden gem nestled at the foot of a mountain, reports Liverpool Echo.

In 1276, Edward I bestowed upon the town its prestigious market charter, which remains a bustling hub of activity to this day. Over 60 stalls spring to life every Thursday and Saturday, offering residents an eclectic mix of locally-sourced produce, artisanal crafts, and a lively atmosphere.

Just a brief stroll from the market square, now a fully pedestrian zone, lie two expansive public parks. Hope Park is renowned for its exquisitely maintained gardens, while Fitz Park provides a haven for children with its playground, BMX track, and ample space for ball games and picnics.

The town’s Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa recently captured national headlines, earning the name of the ‘best destination’ spa in the UK. Lauded by the Good Spa Guide, it was celebrated as the “perfect combination of romance, luxury and lakeside adventure”.

Keswick is also home to a wealth of attractions; from the century-old Alhambra cinema to the Theatre by the Lake, and the ancient Castlerigg Stone Circle that dates back four millennia. Regardless of how you choose to spend your time, Keswick’s breathtaking scenery is always within sight.
