National Highways warned on October 30 of “severe delays” on the M56 as two lanes out of three are closed eastbound in Cheshire between J14 Hapsford Interchange (Stanlow, Helsby A5117; Chester Services) and J12 Rocksavage Interchange (Runcorn, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Widnes, Northwich A557) 2 lanes (of 3) are closed.
The closure was sparked by an emergency roadworks operation, being carried out to replace a displaced drainage cover.
They are expected to be completed by mid-afternoon, the organisation said.
National Highways said around 12pm there were delays of around 90 minutes between these junctions and approximately 8 miles of congestion.
