M25 horror as Mercedes driver goes wrong way along motorway for 7 miles

A Mercedes driver caused chaos on the M25 when she drove the wrong way for two junctions.

The black Mercedes CLC was spotted travelling in the wrong direction between Junction 11 (for Chertsey) and Junction 13 (for Staines Interchange) at about 2.20am on Saturday, March 9.

A 29-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and being over the drink-drive limit. She has since been released on bail while police continue their investigation.

Surrey Police are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “If you witnessed anything, or have any dashcam footage which can assist us with our enquiries, please contact us quoting PR/45240027194 via webchat on our website, make a report online or call 101. If you would rather not speak to police, you can call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The incident comes ahead of a full closure of the M25 in Surrey at the end of this week from 9pm on Friday, March 15, through to 6am on Monday, March 18. The junctions impacted will be Junctions 10 (for the A3) and 11.

Drivers are being warned to expect long delays due to an unprecedented closure. The Clearmount bridleway bridge, located between Wisley and the Chertsey Interchange, will be closed as part of a major project aimed at reducing pollution and enhancing safety, reports MyLondon.

National Highways has advised motorists to use alternative routes and provided a handy map to help navigate around the disruption. The detour is the same in both directions.

Four more closures are planned between now and September 2024. The next full closure of the M25 is scheduled for April to allow for the installation of the new Clearmount bridleway bridge.
