Traffic on the M1 southbound is heavily disrupted after an accident at Junction 35, where a lorry left the carriageway near the A629 at Cowley Hill, affecting the Rotherham and Chapeltown area.
The southbound entry slip road at this junction is closed, and congestion has built up as far back as Junction 36 for Barnsley South and Hoyland.
Although the main carriageway has reopened after being blocked for around forty minutes, lane one of four remains shut, adding to the delays.
The incident has been ongoing since around 11am, and drivers are still experiencing long queues as recovery and safety work continues.
