Luke Littler already boasts an impressive list of victories including the World Darts Championship, World Matchplay, Grand Slam of Darts, UK Open, Premier League and World Series. However, there are still a few titles he’s yet to claim, one of which is the World Grand Prix, which is set to commence on Monday. As the unique double-start event approaches, Littler has his sights set on adding another trophy to his collection despite not being a fan of the format.
“Obviously it’s the next big one. I’ll be honest, I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the double start,” Littler told the Daily Star. “I think it’s one of the toughest tournaments to win. The Worlds, the Matchplay. the Premier League. But the double start: if you don’t get off, then you’re in trouble.”
The format, requiring players to hit a double to begin each leg, often presents a mental challenge. Littler admits it’s not something he regularly does, but recognises its importance in the lead-up to the tournament.
He said: “I can’t say I really practice the double start often but obviously leading up to it.
“I think I’ll have to, just get used to it. Every year we’ll see someone hit a treble twenty first out and then they forget. It’ll be tough but we’ve still got plenty of darts to play.”
Last year, it was Ricardo Pietreczko that was left with egg on his face as he landed his darts in the treble 20, only to realise his mistake almost immediately.
The Nuke has already turned out at this unique event before, crashing out in the opening round at the hands of Rob Cross.
His task on Tuesday evening won’t be any easier, with Gian van Veen hoping to cause an upset against the reigning world champion.
It comes after Littler announced that he would be easing his schedule next year so that he can take his girlfriend on holiday.
When asked if he had been able to enjoy a getaway in 2025, Littler said: “I didn’t have the chance this year. Last year I managed to, but this year has just been full-on.
“That comes with winning the Worlds – more to do, more people to talk to. But in 2026, there’ll definitely be a few holidays for me.
“I’ll take the time to go away with my girlfriend and family, without even thinking about darts.”
