A mass brawl broke out at the end of the Club World Cup final as Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique struck Chelsea forward Joao Pedro. The Blues ran out 3-0 winners over the Champions League holders at MetLife Stadium, banking £93million in the process, thanks to a brace from Cole Palmer and Pedro’s first-half finish.
But tempers boiled over at the end of the match. Joao Neves was given a red card in the 85th minute after pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair. The incident was not initially spotted but VAR informed the referee and the Portuguese midfielder was swiftly given his marching orders.
But once Chelsea’s victory and new title as world champions was confirmed, a brawl broke out involving large numbers from both sides.
Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was at the heart of the incident, along with Pedro, who earlier received complaints from Marquinhos and several PSG stars as they accused him of wasting time.
Donnarumma also appeared to be in a physical altercation with Pedro, who fell to the floor clutching his face, before his team-mates rushed to the Brazilian’s aid.
