Jane Moore issued her verdict following Prince Harry’s interview with the BBC after losing his court appeal. In an emotional interview the Duke of Sussex, 40, spoke from California and said he was “devastated” at losing a legal challenge over his security in the UK. Prince Harry said King Charles “won’t speak to me because of this security stuff”, but that he did not want to fight any more and did “not know how much longer my father has”.
The prince had wanted to overturn changes to his security that were introduced in 2020 as he stepped down as a working royal and moved to the United States. The Loose Women presenter, 62, addressed Harry’s bombshell interview and claimed the prince’s “bitterness blinds him” in a brutal takedown as she branded his sit-down chat “unforgivable” after bringing up his fraught relationship with the monarch.
Writing in her latest column for The Sun, Jane wrote: “But unforgivably, he has dragged his fractured relationship with his father back into the limelight at a time when King Charles is trying to juggle the demands of his royal duties with cancer treatment.
“Harry, however, clearly views life solely through the prism of himself, so ploughs on with ‘his truth’ regardless of the consequences to the family he claims he still wishes to reconcile with.”
The columnist went on to suggest his “aggrieved expression” during the interview suggested Harry was “struggling to comprehend that the luxurious trappings of royal life are a perk of the role, not a transferable privilege,” adding the monarchy took him at his word when he stepped down from the Royal Family in 2020.
In a brutal four-word verdict, she said: “He’s made his bed,” before adding, “Perhaps it’s now time for him to lie in it and try to enjoy the life he’s chosen”.
After Friday’s court ruling, the prince said: “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the UK at this point.”
“There have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family,” he added, but had now “forgiven” them.
“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious,” said Prince Harry, who said the dispute over his security had “always been the sticking point”.
Buckingham Palace had responded to Harry’s claims with a cold, blunt statement that read: “These issues have been examined meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion on each occasion.”
