It’s always fun to try somewhere unique for a day out – and one viral London pub is dividing opinion after becoming known for being “the pub that floods”.

If you want to enjoy the White Cross pub in Richmond, it might be worth getting your wellies out as it’s likely you will be trailing through high-tide merky water at the pub’s beer garden. The popular spot, just off Water Lane, always sees crowds of people enjoy a pint or two with a “once-in-a-lifetime experience”.

A spokesperson for the pub said: “With a cold drink in hand, the Thames lapping at your feet, it’s like nature’s own little party trick! As the water rises, so does the banter among your pals, and no need to fight it out who’s brave enough to wade to the bar for the next round.”

People Trip Advisor have been rating the spot as five star, a “London landmark”, a “top pub by The Thames” offering “great lunch and service”. However, after a video went viral on Instagram recently, many disagreed.

Popular food and drink reviewer known as Eating With Tod, who boasts 1.5million viewers, went to visit the spot recently and shared his review. He said: “This is the pub that floods.

“The White Cross in Richmond floods in high tide, submerging the beer garden leaving people stranded in trainers! It’s brilliant and the experience is hilarious.”

He added: “It’s quite a unique experience. The White Cross in Richmond is a normal functioning pub until the ride comes in and floods the beer garden outside the front of the pub at this point people start to panic.

“People do all sorts of things to get to dry land – whether it’s playing the floor is lava or just running straight through the water.” He noted the waiters get changed into wellies so they can deliver people’s drinks and food to them with ease.

The content creator said he recommends the fish and chips at the popular spot.

People rushed to comment, as one individual said: “Never wanted to visit a pub more.” “That honestly looks like a lot of fun,” wrote another. “Brilliant,” agreed another.

“Eating a roast in sewage filled water is mental,” wrote another. One other said: “This is a great pub and serves the best Guinness in town.”

Another agreed and said: “It’s like trying to sell a bug as a feature. Why would someone go to this pub knowing it would ruin their clothes/shoes?” One other wrote: “I’m sorry but a pub garden that floods every day is not some quirky hipster bulls***, it’s just crap. Go somewhere dry.”

“Why would anyone want that?,” questioned another. One other added: “My goodness these people are brave, that water looks murky!”
