Lloyds Bank has confirmed it will shut seven of its branches this week amid a slew of other closures this month as the high street continues to decline. The banking giant previously said it plans to close 27 branches over the course of May as a result of declining face-to-face transactions.

Last week, eight Lloyds Bank locations were set to close, including Wetherby, Margate and Alnwick, while branches in Bromsgrove, Bishop Auckland and Leyland were among those scheduled to shut earlier in the month. Among the locations closing from today (Monday) are Sherborne, South Elmsall and Ludlow. It comes amid a wave of companies closing brick and mortar stores as physical footfall declines and customers increasingly use digital methods to access services. Lloyds Bank explained on their website: “Most customers are now using our mobile banking app, internet banking or calling us instead. This means they are using branches less.”

Analysis from MoneyWeek when the closures were announced found there would only be 756 Lloyds Banking Group branches left in the UK, a steep fall from the state of play a decade prior, when there were more than 2,200 locations.

Lloyds is not the only bank closing stores, with competitors such as NatWest and Barclays also marking branches out to be shut down.

NatWest plans to close 53 branches in the first half of 2025 while Barclays has slated 99 stores to be wound up by the end of the year.

Santander has announced plans to close 95 branches nationwide, over a fifth of its total UK network, resulting in the loss of 750 jobs.

If your local Lloyds Bank branch is closing, it may be possible to frequent a different location.

MoneySavingExpert advises that Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland customers can use branches belonging to any of the three banks for their everyday needs, such as making cash deposits, withdrawals and paying in cheques.

You can also head to a nearby Post Office, where cash withdrawals and deposits are available, while some areas also have banking hubs, shared spaces where customers of a number of banks can get support and manage their accounts.
