Jayden Danns’ loan move to Sunderland has been confirmed by Liverpool despite the youngster hitting problems in his medical.
Tests performed on the 19-year-old reportedly flagged up problems with his back. He is therefore heading back to the AXA Training Centre to complete his rehabilitation before eventually heading up to Wearside for what should be his first taste of regular senior football.
Liverpool also confirmed that Danns signed a new long-term contract before departing, with the youngster making a big impression in the limited minutes he has been given by manager Arne Slot.
Danns, who plays up front, has scored three goals in nine appearances since making his senior debut last February. The youngster, who is the son of former Premier League footballer Neil Danns, will join the Black Cats’ promotion push under Regis Le Bris.
Sunderland are currently fourth in the table behind Burnley, Sheffield United and Leeds. But with only five points separating the top four, a barnstorming race for the two automatic promotions spots is in store for the final 16 matches of the campaign.
Le Bris has primarily played Wilson Isidor as a centre-forward this season but the arrival of Danns will give him another option, as well as greater depth, given that no player other than Isidor has managed more than four Championship goals.
