The New Year will have a snowy start for many Brits, according to one forecaster.

WX Charts is predicting that large areas of Scotland and England, the whole of Northern Ireland, and parts of Wales will be hit by snowfall on January 1.

According to one radar from the online forecaster, a whole swathe of England – roughly from East Anglia northwards – will be hit with as much as 10cm of snow.

Meanwhile, temperatures across the country will be little over zero for most of the country. By 6pm, WX Charts claims, the majority of Britain will be in sub-zero conditions.

The Met Office – the UK’s official weather forecaster – has not been anywhere near as specific as WX Charts, given the difficulty attached to making precise snow predictions way in advance.

However, the Met Office has said that at “the turn of the year, it looks more probable that colder, more unsettled conditions will likely make at least some ingress into northern and central areas, bringing a risk of some impacts from rain, wind, and maybe even ice, sleet and snow”.

Express.co.uk breaks down which areas, according to WX Charts, are set for snow.
