A spectacular beach is one of the most impressive wild locations for a seaside day in the whole of mainland Britain.

With huge dunes, a massive stretch of almost 1.5 miles of pink sand surrounded by cliffs and pristine blue water – the unspoilt bay is a sight that will make you gasp in delight.

Located in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland, you’ll need to be prepared to walk a few miles to get to the stunning Sandwood Bay, but you’ll not be disappointed.

With its impressive natural scenery, which Visit Scotland describes as the ‘most beautiful beach’, the sight that awaits you makes the walk worthwhile.

The ‘almost deserted’ can be found by following a hiking trail from the hamlet of Blairmore, there is no car access – and of course this is another reason why the location has a paradisial feel about it, it’s an escape from everyday life.

The beach and surrounding area is owned by the Sandwood Estate, it’s run by the John Muir Trust – a charity dedicated to preserving natural places.

The Visit Scotland website describes the wild beach spot: “Reputedly the most beautiful beach in Britain, the wild and spectacular Sandwood Bay in Kinlochbervie is backed by huge sand dunes and a loch.

“Facing straight into the teeth of the North Atlantic, the beach has nearly 1.5 miles of wide pink sand which is flanked by cliffs.

“To the south stands the impressive sea stack of Am Buachaille, while behind the bay’s large dunes stretches Sandwood Loch – a freshwater loch full of brown trout.

“The beach is considered to be one of the most unspoilt beaches in the whole of mainland Britain.

“This remote bay has no road access but can be reached by a 4 mile, well-trodden and fairly flat path leading from the gravel car park at the hamlet of Blairmore.”

Sandwood Bay has been praised numerous times on TripAdvisor with visitors loving its remoteness and stunning sea whether it’s calm or raging.

Most people visiting the beach have said the four-mile walk is worth the effort and some even camp out for the night on the golden-pink sand.

One  TripAdvisor reviewer wrote: “Been to Sandwood countless times now, and it never disappoints.

“Of course, summer sun brings out all the gorgeous colours but strong winds and raging seas show you nature in all her mighty power too.

“Guarded to the south by the impressive sea stack, Am Buachaille – the route is waymarked from Blairmore Car Park. Should be easy enough for walkers of all abilities.

“The 4.5 mile walk to the beach passes moorland and lochans. Take in the sights, they’re wonderful. It’s a must for anyone visiting this part of Scotland.”

Another reviewer wrote (on TripAdvisor): “Me and my daughter wild camped for one night at Sandwood and it was an amazing experience!

“We parked at Blairmore carpark for free and hiked the four mile ish walk to the beach.

I couldn’t believe how quiet and secluded it was, it’s an absolutely beautiful beach!”
