Little-known computer setting could help boost your WiFi connection

Computers serve numerous purposes, but most of us rely on them to access the Internet for various activities, such as browsing, shopping, or gaming. But what should you do when your internet connection feels slow, or if your computer keeps losing its WiFi connection unexpectedly?

WiFi troubles are widespread, but according to one PC expert, there’s a straightforward method to enhance the connection between your computer and your WiFi.

What’s more, you don’t need to spend ages restarting your WiFi router to get it functioning, as all you have to do is alter one thing in your PC’s settings.

In a video posted on TikTok by RTC Tutorials, there’s a basic command you can input on your keyboard that will allow you to modify something in your settings to maintain your WiFi connection.

The technique will only function on a Windows PC and not on a Mac or a computer operating another system, such as Linux.

All you need to do is press the Windows key and the X key on your keyboard. This should display a list of options, and you should select the one titled “Device Manager”.

The management interface should reveal all the components of your PC, including your disk drives, any monitors you have connected, and your keyboards and mice.

One section should be marked “Network adapters”, and this is the one that you need to expand so you can view the options beneath it.

You should be able to see a list of adapters, one of which will be your WiFi. Right-click on the appropriate adapter, then choose “properties” from the menu that pops up.

A fresh window will open, and you’ll need to navigate to the “power management” tab located at the top. This section should display several tickable boxes.

If the option “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” is selected, deselect it. This will prevent your PC from cutting ties with your WiFi router and ought to enhance your connection performance.

After completing this, press “OK” and shut down all open applications.

Users responding to the post expressed gratitude to the specialist for the advice, revealing they’d been experiencing WiFi troubles themselves. However, others encouraged people to utilise a wired Ethernet connection where feasible, as this typically offers greater stability.

One individual commented: “Very grateful to you thank you for sharing and posting.”

Another remarked: “Ethernet does exist. I don’t know if there’s any extra steps to set it up, but from what I know it’s just better.”
