‘Lidl saved my miserable holiday abroad for reason you’d least expect’ | Europe | Travel

Thousands of Brits are jetting off on holiday at the moment, and one popular destination is Croatia. One woman recently ventured to the holiday hotspot for a break in the sun, but the trip away wasn’t quite what she expected as it took a bit of a drastic turn.

In a candid video shared online Anna, known as anna.trains on TikTok, recently admitted she had waited a “whole year” for her holiday abroad, but it left her a little underwhelmed. In fact, if it wasn’t for Lidl, it could have ended up even worse and the reason why will completely blow you away.

Sharing a clip from Croatia, she joked that the UK weather follows you everywhere, as she posted a video of people being drenched with rain. Naturally, this is the last thing you expect when you book some time away, especially as Croatia is known for being super sunny.

In the clip, you see the holiday party being caught out in a downpour, as they headed out for the day in shorts. With it being way too wet to don flip flops or sandals, they opted to cover their feet with Lidl shopping bags.

The genius hack left people in stiches, as people couldn’t get over what happened. As well as the bad weather, people couldn’t help but laugh at the supermarket fashion that saved them.

Thousands of people have viewed the video since it was shared, and dozens commented too. Some couldn’t help but make jokes at the situation.

One person quipped: “Be careful with those Lidl bags. My friend got temporary tattoos out of the logos in Croatia.”

Another added: “So stylish.” A third replied: “Lidl shoes?”

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: “Haven’t met any other Brits in Split yet. This weather would reunite us, I fear.”

In follow-up comments, Anna admitted the weather luckily improved with time. She noted it’s still important to make your time away fun, no matter what may come your way, even though the weather would have made matters a little miserable at times.

What is the weather like in Croatia?

Obviously, this can depend on what part you visit but, generally, Croatia isn’t sunny all year around. Even though the coastal region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters, the inland areas experience a continental climate with hot summers and cooler, wetter winters.

Normally, summer is the best time to visit for sun, especially along the coast. July usually sees the least rainfall and the most sunny days, while winter can be cold and wet.

Split is said to enjoy over 2,700 hours of sunshine per year on average and more than 300 sunny days annually. This enables it to be classed as a sunny destination overall, according to Intelligent Cities Challenge.

However, during winter, the city experiences cooler temperatures and wetter weather. Not to mention, nothing is ever promised, and the weather can change suddenly at lots of popular holiday destinations.
