Liam Gallagher has revealed he’s been on a “downwards slide”, committing himself to reverse the effects of “undoing years of partying” after facing a number of health challenges. With Oasis reuniting for a long-awaited tour, Liam and Noel are putting the past behind them to delight fans with their classic hits, starting in Cardiff yesterday (July 4).
In 2023, Liam, the once hard-living Oasis frontman, had to have a hip replacement operation due to arthritis resulting from Hashimoto’s Disease — an autoimmune disorder affecting the thyroid — which he has battled since a 2017 diagnosis. Liam is also plagued by psoriasis, which causes pain and inflammation in the skin. The legendary party animal, now 51, was once infamous for epic accounts of excessive drinking, drug escapades, and scrapes.
His lifestyle now contrasts sharply with his tumultuous heydays; he opts for herbal sleep remedies, endures arthritis that has rendered his joints “mashed up”, combats dandruff, goes to bed before Emmerdale starts, and does light workouts at his local park.
Reflecting on his life with The Sun, Liam shared: “You’ve got to undo all the bad work you’ve done through f***ing getting off your head and all that. It’s time to undo it all now and get back to reality. All that stuff that you thought was cool in the early days… it’s time to get healthy.”
Liam, famed for his hedonistic lifestyle, now finds himself wide awake at 4am, invigorated and reflective after taking a herbal sleeping pill to ease his sore joints, confessing to “nodding off at six or seven” the previous night.
Now he lives a quieter life with his family, including fiancée Debbie Gwyther and his children Molly, Lennon, Gene and Gemma.
Reflecting on the process of ageing, he admitted: “As you get older, life is precious, do you know what I mean. When you are younger you don’t care. But as you get older, you’re getting closer to wherever you’re meant to be going.
“I’m definitely on the downwards slide, though. But we’re all going to die, aren’t we?”
