An 86-year-old woman has been arrested following a police investigation into allegations that human remains may have been buried at a Leicester home in the 1970s. Leicestershire Police confirmed they are searching two properties in the city after receiving a report from a third party suggesting that human remains could be located at an address on Wolverton Road, off Narborough Road.
Officers from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit’s major crime team executed a search warrant at the Wolverton Road property on Saturday, July 19, and a second warrant was carried out the same day at another property on Dumbleton Avenue, nearby.
An 86-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the case but has since been released on police bail pending further investigation, police said in a statement.
Detective Inspector Neil Holden, who is leading the inquiry, described the investigation as “very complex and sensitive” and cautioned that it remains in the early stages.
“I appreciate the news of this investigation will be concerning to the local community,” DI Holden said.
“Given the serious nature of the allegations which have been made, a scene preservation has been put in place at both addresses to allow officers to carry out a thorough search and secure any evidence.”
Police have not confirmed whether any human remains have been recovered, nor have they released further details about the nature of the report or the individuals potentially involved.
Local neighbourhood officers remain in the area to provide reassurance, and the public is being asked not to speculate or spread misinformation.
“Please only share information which is known to be true,” DI Holden added. “We will provide further updates to you as and when we are able to and when it is appropriate to do so.”
