Latest weather maps show 230-mile snow bomb hitting UK as far south as Cardiff at Easter

New weather maps have revealed a 230-mile snow bomb could hit the UK over Easter.

Snow could hit Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff on Saturday, March 30, with heavy rain predicted for London, Norwich and Southampton by forecasters at WXCharts.

Forecasters also predict parts of central Scotland could see snow with some rain also potentially hitting north of the Highlands.

And in the Midlands and Wales forecasters predict snow could fall as fast as 10cm per hour.

WXCharts predicts that rain will fall fast in affected areas with some parts of southern England seeing it fall as fast as 10mm per hour.

But long-range predictions of snow should be taken with a pinch of salt according to the Met Office which says it is incredibly difficult to predict snowfall more than two days ahead.

For the same day the Met Office said winter showers were possible in Scotland but predicted rain for most of the UK.

Its long-range forecast for the period between Monday, March 25, and Wednesday, April 3, read: “Turning unsettled across the majority of the UK early next week, as a couple of weather systems bring rain or showers to most areas, with strong winds in places and temperatures near to a little below normal for late March.

“Perhaps staying relatively drier in the north, with some wintry showers possible for northern Scotland on Monday.

“Through the bank holiday weekend and into the following week, unsettled or changeable weather remains the most likely outcome.

“All areas are likely to see further rain or showers at times, with some drier spells in between, but wet weather will tend to favour the southwest while northern parts remain a bit drier on average. Temperatures will probably continue near normal for the time of year.”

Looking at the end of the current week, the national forecaster said “hazy sunshine” would remain tomorrow but that the weather would turn colder moving into the weekend with the potential for showers on Sunday.
