LA skier dies on black diamond run at Northstar Tahoe resort

A California man’s winter getaway turned into a nightmare after a fatal accident on the slopes of a ski resort in the greater North Lake Tahoe.

Nicholas Kenworthy, 26, was killed Friday while skiing at the Northstar California Resort in Truckee, authorities confirmed. The Los Angeles resident was tackling the “Martis” trail–a grueling Black Diamond run on the mountain’s backside — when disaster struck.

The Truckee Fire Protection District scrambled to the scene after receiving reports of a serious skiing accident where they found ski patrol frantically performing CPR on the young man. Despite desperate attempts, Kenworthy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Martis trail where Kenworthy met his tragic fate is known for its uninterrupted advanced runs, and feeds into the exclusive, members-only Martis Camp Lodge.

Details surrounding the exact nature of the crash remain unknown.
