King Charles’s staff have been ordered to bring one thing to the hospital once “he recovers from the anaesthetic”. It was revealed last week that both the King and his beloved daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales, were set to receive medical treatment this month – both within days of one another.
With the Princess of Wales still recovering in The London Clinic in Marylebone, the King was admitted to the same hospital earlier today to receive treatment for an enlarged prostate.
Writing in her article for the Daily Mail, royal editor Rebecca English said: “I can also reveal that staff are even expecting to take paperwork into the hospital for him to deal with later this afternoon, depending on how he recovers from the anaesthetic.”
According to the article, one source said: “I really wouldn’t be surprised if he is back working later.”
Queen Camilla reportedly had been urging her husband to slow down – especially with, at that time, surgery on the horizon.
However, the 75-year-old is known for his “workaholic” ways so this will likely been something that will continue – even in hospital.
Writing in her article, Ms English wrote: “But Charles is a workaholic, who famously packs in ten to 12 engagements and meetings a day and spends many a night alone in his study, furiously writing letters and keeping up with his paperwork, well into the early hours.
“His wife knows he won’t change, and nor would she want him to.”
Leaving the London Clinic this afternoon, Queen Camilla told reporters: “He’s doing fine, thank you.” Echoing this, a Palace insider also tells Express.co.uk that the King is “doing well” following the planned procedure.
Doctors are said to have told him to cancel all upcoming engagements before the surgery.
Despite this, the monarch is reportedly hoping to keep on top of his work and “insisted on not only keeping up with his paperwork but even holding meetings behind the scenes”.
On Thursday, just hours before his surgery, the King held an audience with Dame Polly Courtice of Cambridge University’s Institute for Sustainability Leadership and Professor Robert Miller, director of the Whittle Laboratory.
The King is, however, set to remain in hospital for two days post-surgery.
With Princess Kate also in hospital, Prince William is holding down the fort at home with their three children.
Both Kate and William are keen to keep up normality for the children, with William doing all of the school runs.
William is said to have spent every day at Kate’s side, although the children have, so far, not visited the hospital.
