Prince Harry has been estranged from the Royal Family since 2020 and a feud reportedly began when Prince William believed his younger brother was moving too fast in his relationship with Meghan Markle.
Since then there have been a number of twists and turns involving security issues, tell-all books and heartbreaking news.
King Charles was diagnosed with cancer on February 5 with historian and broadcaster, Robert Hardman, telling the Daily Beast how his diagnosis has reminded the king of his“fragility” and the importance of a united family.
But in order to reset his relationship with his son, Prince Harry, there has to be one condition that’s followed, states Hardman – author of a biography of the British monarch.
“Whatever the king does it needs to be done in tandem with both brothers, not just one.
Hardman further elaborated in an interview to mark the publication of a new and updated edition of his biography, Charles III, New King, New Court, and said: “He can’t have unilateral discussions if William isn’t in agreement.
“Whatever reconciliation or bridge-building happens, it needs to be a three-way process.
“People keep asking about the king’s feelings, but William also has to be on board, which adds complexity.
“It’s tricky, and a situation nobody wants. But whatever the way forward is, it has to work for everybody.”
Relations between the two princes have been strained since Prince Harry relocated with Meghan Markle to California, and his memoir, Spare, was published.
Recently William mentioned Harry in his documentary on homelessness in which he described a memory with his brother and mother, Princess Diana, when she introduced him to The Passage at the age of 11.
The mention had sparked hopes of a reconciliation with Hardman adding how “the bond between the brothers historically runs deep.”
In the new book Hardman further discusses how Charles’s diagnosis came as a “a big shock” for the royal household, particularly when Kate Middleton‘s own cancer diagnosis emerged too.
“There was a sense of fragility—things had been going well, and then suddenly they were hit by this news,” he wrote.
“But he was very matter of fact about it, with no panic. He has a strong sense of spirituality that buoyed him up. He’s brave.”
“They’re private people, so we don’t know what cancer they have, but we know the princess’s treatment is over, while his is ongoing. Things feel very different now than they did at the beginning of the year.”
