King Charles had to adjust his holiday plans this year due to his cancer treatment, reports have claimed.
The King was diagnosed with cancer back in February following a planned enlarged prostate operation in London. At the time Buckingham Palace courtiers stressed his cancer was not linked to the operation.
According to the Times, the decision to not disclose the type of cancer the monarch got was solely in Charles’s hands, who reportedly viewed his health update would reach more people if he didn’t narrow it down to one single type of cancer.
But his diagnosis also meant the King would have to undergo cancer treatment, which resulted in a major change when it came to his “favourite annual holidays” – a trip to Romania and skiing.
The outlet claimed that both holidays were “out of the question”; however, his downtime during that time had its own benefits.
Charles took a short break from public-facing duties as he underwent treatment for his illness from February until April.
He went away for a week at the Castle of Mey in Caithness during the summer, while Camilla went on holiday with her family abroad at an undisclosed location.
During his time in Scotland, the King reportedly found his love for one of his hobbies again.
The outlet claimed: “This summer, he took up painting again for the first time since his accession.
“While Camilla was on holiday with her family abroad, the King spent a week at the Castle of Mey in Caithness where he sat in front of his easel to capture the scenery with his paint brushes laid out before him.
“His artistic streak came out in designing new gardens this year, including a maze at Balmoral and plans for Windsor.”
A source said: “If the pun can be excused, he is very grass roots about these things.
“His involvement starts with helping with the complexities of a new maze by drawing it out himself, right down to getting his hands dirty planting the trees.”
