King Charles's bizarre change at Sandringham so guests can listen to 'voices' of mushrooms

King Charles III is planning on making a bizarre change at Sandringham so guests can listen to the “voices” of mushrooms.

The monarch is opening the grounds to a series of Chorus of Life walks later this year, with guests being given special microphones during their visits.

The Sandringham estate says that guests will be given “specialised parabolic microphone” to listen to birdsong and “the hidden sounds of plants, lichen and fungi”.

The technique used will involve converting electrical conductivity into audio, according to the Sun.

Visitors to Sandringham this year will also be able to go Forest Bathing – a practice that originated in Japan and connects people to nature through sensory-based activities.

The 75-year-old is currently taking time away from public facing duties due to his ongoing cancer treatment.

Charles confirmed that he had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer last month, with further details kept to a minimum.

The monarch was diagnosed through tests during his three-day hospital stay for an enlarged prostate in January – athough the cancer is unrelated.

The grounds, as well as St Mary Magdalene Church and Sandringham House, will be open to the public from March 23.

The monarch has been spending time at Sandringham since the beginning of his cancer treatment.

Following his diagnosis announcement on February 5, the Palace said that he started treatment as an outpatient.

Despite his ongoing cancer treatment, the monarch is hoping to be well enough to attend this year’s Trooping The Colour.

The King typically rides horseback at the annual event, although changes are likely to be made to make the day as comfortable as possible for the King.

Although he is thought to be doing well, the King may have to be driven in a carriage or watch the military spectacle from a podium rather than on horseback.

The monarch is also hoping to visit Australia later this year, a royal tour that was revealed last year.

Queen Camilla is set to join him on the tour in October.
