Sarah Ferguson’s return to Wimbledon this week was a “sign” of King Charles’s “kindness”, a royal commentator has claimed. The Duchess of York was spotted in the Royal Box on Monday, joined by her daughter, Princess Beatrice, as they mingled with celebrities and watched the Gentlemen’s Singles first round match between Italy’s Fabio Fognini and Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
Mother and daughter were snapped chatting with actor Eddie Redmayne and his wife Hannah Bagshawe and actor Jason Isaacs, among others. It was Fergie’s, as she is known to friends and family, first time back at Centre Court in nearly 30 years. The last time she attended Wimbledon was in 1988 alongside the late Princess Diana.
And now a royal expert claimed Fergie’s appearance at Wimbledon was a clear sign of how “magnanimous” the monarch is.
The Daily Mail’s royal editor, Rebecca English, told Palace Confidential: “I think it shows a sign of how magnanimous King Charles has been.
“He’s made it clear that he will continue his mother’s attempts to bring her slightly more back into the royal fold.”
Ms English added: “She’s obviously had a lot of health battles over the last few years and actually is a well of support to his brother, Prince Andrew.”
The royal expert added she thought this was “a sign of the King’s kindness.”
The Duchess looked stylish in a green floral maxi dress by ME + EM.
She was pictured sharing a laugh and talking with her daughter as the match went on.
