King Charles makes Commonwealth Day guestlist plea – full list of who may attend

King Charles has reportedly stated that all able-bodied working royals should attend the Commonwealth Day Service in London on Monday. The 75-year-old monarch will be absent from the service on March 11 due to continuation of his cancer treatment.

King Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer last month and has not attended any public-duties since. The Princess of Wales will also not be in attendance as she continues her recovery after undergoing abdominal surgery back in January.

In her husband’s absence, Queen Camilla will lead the extended Royal Family at Monday’s Commonwealth Day Service. Although he has taken some time away from duties following his wife’s surgery two months ago, Prince William will be attending the service.

With two senior royals out of action, Express.co.uk has posed a list of working royals that the public are likely to see in attendance on Monday.

The Prince of Wales, 41, will be joining his stepmother in leading the rest of the royals on Monday. The Queen and William are likely to be joined by Princess Anne and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence.

Known as the hardest-working royal, Princess Anne is often seen to be stepping up to represent the monarchy – especially in the absence of her brother. Sir Timothy Laurence is often seen by his wife’s side at various royal events and next week’s service is set to be no different.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are two other royals who will be in attendance at the annual service. Although he now stands at 14th in line to the throne, Prince Edward is a key attendee at such royal events.

The theme for Commonwealth Day 2024, and the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, is ‘One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth’.

A celebration of the Commonwealth, which is in its 75th anniversary year, will take place at Westminster Abbey in London.

The service is the second to take place in the reign of King Charles III.
