King Charles is searching for a new Chef de Partie – a role with one major catch

King Charles III is searching for a new Chef de Partie to join his elite team at Buckingham Palace.

The monarch – who is currently taking time away from public-facing royal duties while he continues his cancer treatment – has advertised a vacancy for a new Chef de Partie, who will be required to prepare meals and banquets for the King and his guests.

The role requires someone who will be able to prepare food fit for a King, but there is one catch – the applicant will need to have a love of travelling.

The new chef will be based principally at Buckingham Palace – the King’s main London base – but must be willing cook at other residences such as Balmoral and the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland.

According to the advert, the new employee will have an offer of accommodation – “for which there is a salary adjustment” – as well as all their own meals provided for.

The advert also reads: “The successful candidate will join an accomplished and close-knit team, working hands-on with talented colleagues to deliver a range of cuisines to the highest standards.

“You’ll work with quality ingredients and be responsible for the day-to-day preparation and service of food to the Royal Household and staff.”

The new chef must “assist in preparing meals across all areas of the kitchen for internal colleagues, Royal meals, and special functions to the highest standards” and “support Senior chefs in creating seasonal menus utilising products from the local estates”. They will also need to “travel to other locations as required, ensuring consistent standards are upheld at each residence”.

The role will require you to work 5 out of 7 days a week, and is a permanent contract.

For experience, the advert states that the ideal chef would ideally have experience from 5-star/premier catering operations would be a plus, as would experience in both volume catering and classical French cuisine.

The deadline to apply for the role is April 1.
