King Charles 'in pain' as he's still waiting to meet Lilibet for the first time

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could spend Christmas in the UK as King Charles is ‘desperate’ to see his grandchildren. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are last known to have spent Christmas with the Royal Family in 2018, when the couple stayed at Sandringham Estate during the festive period.

The next year, they decided to spend Christmas with Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, before stepping down from royal working duties in 2020. Since then, the couple have spent Christmas away from the Royal Family – and have rarely spent time in the UK at all.

This means King Charles has scarcely seen grandson Prince Archie, and is not yet known to have met his granddaughter Princess Lilibet in person. But it now seems King Charles is “desperate” to see his grandchildren.

He is said to be dropping hints to the Sussexes that the door is open for a Christmas return, according to reports. A source said the monarch is hoping for “peace and positivity” among his family.

This is something that means “everything to him”, they added: “It pains him that he’s yet to meet Lilibet. He would love so much to spend time with Archie as well as Harry, whether it’s one-on-one or with Meghan there too.”

The Sussexes have yet to confirm what their plans will be through the festive period, but news of a potential Christmas invite will be “welcome” to the couple, who have seen tensions increase with the royals due to the fallout from Omid Scobie’s new book, Endgame.

So far, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not publicly commented on the book, which sparked a race row when two royals accused of commenting on the skin colour of Prince Archie were named in the Dutch publication of the book.

King Charles was locked in crisis talks following the incident, with Buckingham Palace reportedly ‘considering all options’, though senior royals have been busy with engagements the past few days following a tumultuous week.
