King Charles’ bizarre music request – ‘he asked for a Sugababes CD’ | Royal | News

King Charles has reportedly made an interesting music request for the King’s Trust Awards ceremony today. At a reception held yesterday ahead of Thursday’s ceremony, the King met a number of celebrities that support the King’s Trust – a charity which was set up by the monarch when he was the Prince of Wales to help young people access opportunities.

Among the famous faces at the Buckingham Palace reception last night was Radio 1 DJ Melvin Odoom, who shared a conversation with the monarch, 76. Melvin, who is performing a DJ set today for red carpet arrivals at the ceremony, asked the King: “Any tunes you want, let me know”.

As reported by GB News, the King’s response was surprising.

Talking about his conversation with the monarch, Odoom later revealed: “He (the King) asked for the Sugababes CD to be played.

“I didn’t want to say to him we don’t use CDs anymore, I’m using USB, but I’ll drop the Sugababes.”

The Sugababes, who were also told by the King that he wanted a CD of their music, said it was “very cool” that the monarch had requested to have their music playing.

The all-girl group will open and close the ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall today.

The King’s Trust Awards aims to recognise young people who have improved their own chances in life and have had a positive impact on their local community.

This year’s winners include young people who have overcome challenges such as poor mental health, educational troubles and youth unemployment with the help of the Trust, which aims to help young disadvantaged people access opportunities.

The charity – formerly known as The Prince’s Trust – was originally set up in 1976 by the monarch and has supported over one million people.

King Charles has always been passionate about the charity, having used his Navy severance pay of £7,400 to fund a number of community initiatives that kickstarted the foundation.
