Kim Jong-un’s ‘suicide drones’ get AI boost amid ‘spying’ mission | World | News

A fresh report reveals that Korean officials have detailed blueprints for AI drone development across each military division.

According to an insider within the North Korean armed forces who spoke to NK News, the General Staff Department (GSD) of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) commanded the military to formulate strategies for AI-powered manned and unmanned warfare systems.

The Combat Training Bureau of the GSD released an official instruction on August 2nd to operational departments throughout the KPA, which was allegedly transmitted through encrypted wireless networks. The news comes as Kim Jong-un unveils huge nuclear-armed warship as North Korea ramps up WW3 threats.

Following this directive, they have bolstered their involvement with AI technology, drones, and even “suicide drones.”

Last month, North Korea dispatched artificial intelligence researchers and students to Russia and other nations, according to a pro-DPRK media outlet in Japan.

Fresh directive

Specialists have indicated that the progression of North Korean AI technology is probably supported by Russia, which North Korea has recently endorsed by sending its forces to help with Moscow’s conflict in Ukraine, providing the typically isolated military with exposure to contemporary warfare technology.

This fresh military directive appears to be a strategy to prepare for the development of new combat systems that integrate AI technology as part of the next five-year plan leading up to the Ninth Party Congress scheduled for next year.

DON’T MISS The GSD plans to examine these proposals throughout October and integrate chosen components into winter training, rolling them out from December 1st by establishing or forming fresh trial units across each service and combat division in a swift adoption of cutting-edge battlefield technologies.

According to the source, the Army has been assigned to embrace AI command systems for infantry, mechanised, and artillery units, whilst developing a framework that enables coordinated operations between crewed and uncrewed forces.

AI on land, sea and air

The Navy has been directed to prepare fresh multipurpose combat drills utilising crewed and uncrewed systems for harbour operations, EMP response, nuclear counterattacks, minesweeping, and submersible operations.

The Air Force has been commanded to establish operational blueprints for tactical exercises using mixed formations of crewed and uncrewed aircraft.

Army Special Operations Forces have been instructed to formulate operational strategies for irregular warfare employing crewed and uncrewed systems, including drone assassinations, demolitions, harassment, infiltrations, and amphibious terrorism operations.

‘Leap’ strategy

The Strategic Force was tasked with creating a four-phase “leap” strategy to incorporate AI-driven unified management systems for storing, operating, and commanding nuclear weapons, as well as launching nuclear counterstrikes. In a recent development, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was pictured inspecting new suicide drones equipped with artificial intelligence (AI), as reported by the BBC.

The images, released without a date by the secretive state’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), depict Kim surrounded by officials on a runway, scrutinising a drone.

Kim has given his approval for an expansion in the production of this equipment, according to KCNA.
