Ken Bruce, the renowned radio and TV presenter, is best known for his stint on BBC Radio 2’s weekday mid-morning show from 1986 to 2023. The 74-year-old was honoured with a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2023. Born and bred in Glasgow, Bruce attended grammar school before qualifying as a chartered accountant.
Before embarking on his broadcasting career with the Hospital Broadcasting Service in Glasgow in the early 1970s, he worked washing cars. The much-loved presenter then joined BBC Radio 4 Scotland as a staff announcer and served as a TV continuity announcer for BBC One Scotland and BBC Two Scotland, reports Express.co.uk.
With the launch of BBC Radio Scotland in November 1978, he became one of the original presenters of Nightbeat.
In the 1980s, he took over from Terry Wogan on The Radio 2 Breakfast Show, marking the beginning of his tenure on BBC Radio 2.
Bruce is married to Kerith Coldham, and they have two sons and a daughter together.
He also has two sons from his first marriage to Fiona Fraser and another child from his second marriage to Anne Gilchrist.
