Many Brits freeze bread in a bid to keep it fresh.
After all, sometimes you can never use it up in time, and nobody wants all that food to go to waste. But, if you want to sustain its shelf life even longer, there’s a simple way you can do it.
According to Great British Bake Off’s Paul Hollywood, there’s a simple method you can use to make sure your bread lasts for “weeks”. In a recent TikTok clip, he explained exactly what you need to do.
He said: “Slice up your slices, and you have to individually wrap each one, and then freeze them. Just pop it in the toaster whenever you need it.
“It will lose moisture in the freezer if it’s in there for months and months but, if it’s in there for a couple of weeks, it’s not going to make a blind bit of difference.”
Since the video was shared, it’s been liked more than 1,300 times. People were also quick to comment with their thoughts too.
One person was shocked, saying: “I’ve never needed to individually wrap each one.” Another added: “I freeze bread all the time.”
A third replied: “I haven’t got time for that.” Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “Taking notes for our toast meal prep.”
It was clear many had never heard of the technique before as it seemed to blow people’s minds. Slicing your slices is a new method for foodies.
If you want some other tips for freezing bread, there are some other techniques that will help to keep your loaves in top shape. For starters, freezing it on the day you buy helps to keep it fresh.
For those who bake, you should ensure your loaves cool completely before popping into the freezer. This is because condensation can lead to mold developing.
It’s also vital that you wrap your slices tightly, as it’s important to create an airtight seal. When it comes to when to use it by, bread can actually keep for up to six months in the freezer, but experts advise you use it within one to two months to ensure it tastes as good as possible.
