Karen Bass demands Casey Wasserman step down from LA Olympics

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass doubled down Tuesday on her comments demanding 2028 Olympics chief Casey Wasserman step down.

“Let me just state for the record. I was asked an opinion, and my opinion was, it was an unfortunate decision from the [Olympics] board. The board made its decision. So my job as mayor of the city is to make sure that we have the best Games ever in history. So that decision was made. But, and again, I think it was an unfortunate one, but I have moved on,” she told The Post.

She added that what has come out recently around Wasserman’s association with Jeffrey Epstein “is [not] the best reflection.”

The chief politician of Los Angeles said she was “asked an opinion” and “answered an opinion,” and is directing her focus at preparing the city for the 2028 Summer Olympics.

“My focus now is to make sure that LA is in the best position to have Games that impact all of the city. In my State of the City, I said we are getting ready and on the countdown for the [FIFA] World Cup, and the World Cup is going to give us an opportunity to see how we can have the Games in a way that all of our neighborhoods benefit, economically, socially, culturally, and that is what my focus is, preparing the city of Los Angeles,” she said.

Bass would not comment to The Post who would she would nominate in Wasserman’s place. She also said that she wanted to see about what the board decided before going forward with her opinion.

The mayor said in a CNN interview Monday that she believed Wasserman was not fit to lead the city’s Olympics Committee. Wasserman is the leader of a top talent agency, which he was recently forced to sell after his salacious emails with Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell came to light.

Bass previously had said her “opinion” is that Wasserman should step down.

“The board made a decision. I think that was unfortunate. I don’t support the decision. I do think that we need to look at the leadership,” Bass said. “However, my job as mayor of Los Angeles is to make sure that our city is completely prepared to have the best Olympics that has ever happened in Olympic history.”

Bass also clarified that she cannot fire Wasserman.

The LA28 board decided to keep Wasserman after finding that his relationship with Epstein and Maxwell “did not go beyond what has already been publicly documented.”

A member of the board told The Post, “Casey has the full support of the board, he’s not going anywhere, and the board is set up as an independent entity.”
