Just Stop Oil activists are plotting a “wildfire” of protests in Spring next year, with plans to block roads outside of Parliament “as many times as is possible”.
Express.co.uk can reveal the eco-warriors met on Thursday (December 5) night to discuss the upcoming wave of actions, intended to shut down some of Britain’s busiest streets.
Sam Griffiths, 49, exposed as a JSO ringleader in an undercover sting last month, told activists: “Now, it’s your turn to sit in solidarity outside parliament. We can be the spark, that becomes a flame, that becomes a wildfire.
He said the climate crusaders planned “to take action by blocking roads outside the Houses of Parliament to the point of arrest, as many times as is possible”.
Just Stop Oil’s “simple, urgent and radical” demand is to cease all oil use by 2030. “Net zero by 2050 is suicide and murder”, Griffiths declared, attacking the Government’s current net zero target date.
“We have an opportunity to set a sane deadline in the mind of the public”, he added.
The veteran environmentalist, that in 2023 spent time behind bars in Wandsworth prison, told members that it was their privilege to prevent ordinary Brits from using the country’s roads.
He told the meeting of around 260 activists: “Essentially, it is our responsibility to act. And really, what we need to be talking about is privilege. It is our privilege to be able to take action. To be able to take action is a huge privilege in itself.”
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero were approached for comment.
The Metropolitan Police did not wish to comment.
